The Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès presents 7 musical programs in 18 concerts running from December 14 to January 12.
A highlight of the program is La Nit de Nadal by Joan Lamote de Grignon, whose 75th death anniversary is commemorated this year. This participatory concert will also feature the Orfeó Català and the Cor Infantil.
The Christmas programming with the OSV includes other notable performances, such as Handel's Messiah, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, Classical Musicals, and the New Year’s Concert.
Once again, the Palau de la Música Catalana is hosting its Nadal al Palau (Christmas at the Palau) cycle, offering a special lineup of performances from December 14 to January 12. The program transforms the modernist venue into a space of shared joy through music to celebrate the holiday season. This year's Nadal al Palau with the OSV features 7 different musical proposals, some of which are repeated, resulting in 18 performances overall.
In the year marking Joan Lamote de Grignon's 75th death anniversary, the Palau pays tribute to this emblematic Catalan composer with La Nit de Nadal. This oratorio for soloists, choir, and orchestra, written between 1899 and 1902, blends Catalan folk melodies with post-Wagnerian influences. The concert, conducted by Salvador Brotons, will take place on December 14 (Concert Hall, 6:30 p.m.) and includes performances by the soprano Leonor Martínez, baritone Ferran Albrich, the Cor Infantil del Orfeó Català, the Orfeó Català, participating singers, and the Vallès Symphony Orchestra. The program also features Joaquim Serra’s Puigsoliu and a selection of carols arranged by Brotons.
From mid-December, the Palau will host more OSV concerts, including popular classics with broad appeal. On December 15 (Concert Hall, 12 p.m.), Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker returns, with additional performances on December 25 (7 p.m.) and January 3 and 5 (6 p.m. and 12 p.m.). Conducted by Daniel Gil Tejada, the concert will present highlights from this cherished ballet suite. Actor Luis Posada as narrator and artist Borja González creating sand art live will accompany the performance.
The Festival of Waltzes and Dances will take place on December 21 (Concert Hall, 6:30 p.m.), featuring Viennese waltzes and polkas alongside other musical celebrations. Directed by Xavier Puig, the program reflects key moments of 2024 through music, with soprano Marta Mathéu adding her talent to the event.
Baroque orchestra Vespres d’Arnadí will present two concerts. Under the baton of Dani Espasa and featuring violinist Farran Sylvan James, they will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons on December 22 (Concert Hall, 12 p.m.), with additional performances on January 3 and 12 (9 p.m. and 12 p.m.). Later that day, at 5:30 p.m., Xavier Puig will lead the orchestra in Handel's Messiah, with contributions from the Cor Bruckner Barcelona and soloists María Hinojosa (soprano), Marta Infante (mezzo-soprano), Marc Sala (tenor), and Guillem Batllori (baritone).
Finally, conductor Isabel Rubio returns for the New Year’s Concert on December 29 and 31 (Concert Hall, 12 p.m.), as well as January 1, 2, and 4 (9 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m.). The OSV will perform a festive selection of Strauss family waltzes and polkas with humor, charm, and optimism, delivering all the energy of Vienna's musical tradition.
