Beethoven, Mozart and Theodorakis: a sonic journey from heroism to Mediterranean passion

16.05.2025

The Vallès Symphony Orchestra returns to the stage next weekend with a vibrant yet delicate programme that invites the audience to immerse themselves in three contrasting musical worlds. At its heart is Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”—a revolutionary work that broke the mould and opened the door to musical Romanticism with unprecedented expressive power.

The concert opens with a luminous and refined dialogue in Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp, performed by two outstanding talents: flautist Elisabet Franch (currently assistant flautist of the OSV) and harpist Mélanie Laurent. This subtly balanced, exquisitely beautiful piece was written by the Salzburg genius during his stay in Paris.

To close the programme, the OSV under its principal conductor Xavier Puig will offer an explosion of colour and energy with Mikis Theodorakis’ Zorba the Greek Suite, transporting us to the most festive and vital Mediterranean.

The concert, part of the OSV’s Symphonic Season at the Palau, will take place on Saturday 24 May at 6:30 PM at the Palau de la Música Catalana, and Sunday 25 at 7:00 PM at the Teatre-Auditori of Sant Cugat.
