Friday, May 24, 8:00 PM - Factoria Cultural de Terrassa
Saturday, May 25, 6:30 PM - Palau de la Música Catalana

The program includes a selection of songs by Gustav Mahler performed by Carles Pachón (May 25) and Ferran Albrich (May 24), two lyrical talents trained here with international projection.
The concert, conducted by Xavier Puig, also features the piece "La nuit et l’amour" by French composer Augusta Holmès, written in the same year as Tchaikovsky's symphony and from the era of Mahler's lieder.
Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is a masterpiece that captures the essence of human emotions with unparalleled force and passion. Composed between 1888 and 1889, this symphony is considered one of the most important and influential works of the Romantic symphonic repertoire.

The Vallès Symphony Orchestra presents the concert "Tchaikovsky's Fifth" at the Palau de la Música Catalana (Saturday, May 25) and at the Factoria Cultural de Terrassa (Friday, May 24), a program of the Romantic symphonic repertoire conducted by the principal conductor, Xavier Puig. This will be the 13th concert of the Sinfónicos en el Palau season.

Showcasing its poetic side, the Symphony Orchestra of Vallès presents a selection of songs by Gustav Mahler and also includes the piece "La nuit et l’amour" by French composer Augusta Holmès, written in the same year as Tchaikovsky's symphony and from the era of Mahler's lieder.

Carles Pachón and Ferran Albrich, baritones trained here and with renowned international careers, will perform Mahler's recital, which includes six songs from the cycles *Das Knaben Wunderhorn*, *Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen*, and *Rückert Lieder*.

"La nuit et l’amour" is an intensely evocative interlude, with lyricism that develops in crescendo from the melody's introduction by the cellos. It comes from the "symphonic ode" that Augusta Holmès (1847-1903) titled *Ludus pro patria*, inspired by a painting of the same name by Symbolist painter Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, currently in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Conceived for choir and orchestra, the work premiered on March 4, 1888, by the Société des concerts du Conservatoire de Paris.
