The Vallès Symphony Orchestra concluded the 23/24 season of Symphonic Concerts at the Palau this weekend with three performances of Porgy and Bess at the Teatro La Faràndula de Sabadell (Friday, May 31), Palau de la Música Catalana (Saturday, June 1), and Auditorio Enric Granados de Lleida (Sunday, June 2).
The season closes with record figures: more than 156,000 people have enjoyed or will enjoy the 142 concerts that the Vallès Symphony Orchestra will offer (from September to August) including symphonic concerts, opera, dance, cinema, waltz tours, and Easter. It has featured prominent figures such as Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Andrea Bocelli, or Joaquín Achúcarro (August 11 - Festival de Torroella de Montgrí), and has held Christmas concerts at the Palau de la Música and the Sagrada Familia, among others. It has performed throughout Catalonia, as well as in Madrid and Santander. Soon, it will participate in the Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia.
Never before has this number of spectators and concerts been reached. At the Palau de la Música, 37 concerts have been programmed between the cycles "Symphonics at the Palau," "Christmas at the Palau," and extraordinary concerts. The figures have broken all possible records: 61,771 spectators and an 87% average occupancy. The trend continues to rise for the next season, with 40 concerts planned, highlighting the programming of the 4 titles of the Opera season in Catalonia and the repetition of this year's successes, such as Video Games in Concert! (2 sessions), New Year's Concert (6 sessions), Nutcracker (4 sessions), and Symphonic Pop-Rock.
In the last concert of this season, under the direction of maestro Victor Pablo Pérez, the orchestra had two special guests: Marco Mezquida accompanied by his jazz trio (Marko Lohikari, on double bass, and David Xirgu, on drums) and Òscar Camps, founder and activist of Proactiva Open Arms, who performed Porgy and Bess (symphonic picture) by George Gershwin and Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland, respectively. On Sunday at the Auditorio Enric Granados, Sabadell actor Enric López replaced Òscar Camps, who could not attend Lleida due to scheduling reasons.
The Vallès Symphony Orchestra will donate 1 euro to Proactiva Open Arms for each ticket sold for the concerts in Sabadell and Barcelona, ??dedicating them entirely to its humanitarian missions. Proactiva Open Arms is an organization dedicated to protecting the lives and dignity of people in vulnerable situations, especially in the Mediterranean, since 2015.
