How have we done it?

Project "Mother Goose, suite" (Maurice Ravel)

 

Objectives

 To give children contact with music through participative group work involving schoolchildren and musicians from the OSV

  To educate children in reaching communal decisions within the framework of creative group work

 To foment the personal creativity of each child

  To present the music of other cultures so as to provide the children with a global outlook.

 To strengthen the relationship between the OSV as a cultural organization and its social milieu, in this case the Calvet de Estrella primary school in the district of Can Oriach in Sabadell.


Participants

• 3 groups (30 children) of the 6th course of the Calvet de Estrella primary school, Sabadell

•  The school’s music teacher: Joan Obrados

• 9 musicians from the OSV: Romain Boyer (violoncello), July Laguna (violin), Canòlich Prats (violin), Javier Mateos (violin), Javier García (viola), Lynn Barton (viola) Jordi Cos (viola) Manel Ortega (contrabass), Pablo Pérsico (piano).

Calendar

3 days

• Wednesday January 14, 2009, from 9.30 h to 13.30 h. Location: OSV headquarters.
There was a preparatory / reflective session for the OSV, centred on the social and educative function of music, designed for all members of the orchestra, both musicians and administrative staff.

• Thursday January 15, 2009, from 9.30 h to 13.30 h. Location: OSV headquarters.
A specific work session dealing with the basic musical elements of the Ravel’s work, directed towards the school’s teacher and a group of 9 musicians from the OSV.

• Friday January 16, 2009, from 9.00 h to 13.00 and from 15.00 h to 17.00 h.
Location: Calvet de Estrella primary school (Ca n’Oriach).
The school’s teacher and the musicians from the OSV shared Ravel’s work with the children, and helped them with the process of creating their own music based on the same elements used in Mother Goose.

 

Resources

A project manual of educational resources which, as a supporting element, contains historical and musical references to the work being used.

A set of percussion instruments from the school music room, including both tuned (Orff type) and rhythmic instruments.

3 work spaces at the school (one larger than the others, for whole group sessions).
