Presentation

With the 2009-2010 season, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès enters a new phase with its new Principal Conductor Rubén Gimeno at the helm. Also new is the Strategic Plan which defines the commitment of the orchestra with its public, consisting of a business model based on shared participation founded on ideas of quality, outreach and innovation.

All these changes are in response to a will to adapt to the prevailing situation, a desire to strengthen the relationship between the orchestra and its audience and a determination to develop the potential of this group of musicians in, and beyond the borders of their country.

The Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès aspires to be an orchestra made up of people and for the people, at the same time as being an institution that imagines and dreams new ways of interaction, with innovative ways of developing and sharing the languages of music.

We wish to take advantage of the 2009-2010 season to present you, our audience, with the values that will power our orchestra’s productions in the future.

REACHING OUT

This season’s programme is the result of the OSV’s immersion in a process of reflection on the nature of the concert. We are aware that the main challenges we will face as an orchestra in the future are to find solutions which will overcome the obstacles presented by the present format for the presentation of symphonic music, that is, the lack of interaction with the audience, the absence of a visually attractive element and the disappearance of the factor of surprise in the programmes.

The choice of an actor and theatre director, Jordi Godall, as artist in residence, the genius of the trombonist and director Christian Lindberg, the warm voice of Pasión Vega, the traditional Festival of Waltzes, a choreographed version of West Side Story, the idea of The seats of “la Simfònica”, which offers the privilege of experiencing the work of music from inside the orchestra, are all born of a desire to reach out, aimed at a single objective: to provoke such emotion in all our listeners that they are motivated to reflect on themselves and discover who they really are.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Jordi Godall, actor and theatre director

One of the main concerns of the l’Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès in the coming season is how to reach out to the audience and ensure that all present are emotionally involved in each concert. From the re-thinking of the programmes to the format of the productions, we want to establish, in each performance, a real and intense rapport with the spectators. In order to take this highly important aspect of communication beyond strictly musical parameters, the OSV has taken on an actor and theatre director as artist in residence: Jordi Godall, with whom, as well as sharing the stage next season, we will reflect on the privileged instrument of communication, the body, and how we can use all available stage resources to make the concert a completely unique experience.

THE MONOLOGUES OF "THE MUSIC OF WORDS"

“The Music of Words” is a literary element created in 2001 with the collaboration of the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes (The Institute of Catalan Literature), where writers create works of fiction using music as their inspiration. This season the Monologues will begin, recited before the concerts by our Artist in Residence Jordi Godall, and will contribute to making the concert experience more complete.
